The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has set up a panel to investigate the alleged issue of underage registration and voting in Kano State.
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu disclosed this on Friday during a workshop in Lagos, maintaining however, that the commission’s register is not compromised.
Pictures of underaged voters in Kano State went viral on social media last weekend soon after the local council elections in the state. The images showed children thumb-printing and voting.
The decision to investigate the matter came after INEC drew flaks when it dissociated itself from the development, saying that it had no control over the State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIEC).
