A person climbed a White House fence Friday and gained access to the complex’s south grounds before being arrested, Fox News confirmed Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 11:38 p.m. Friday while President Trump was at the White House, official told Fox News.
The Secret Service said Saturday the unidentified individual was carrying a backpack and was arrested near the White House residence without further incident.
No hazardous materials were found during a search of a backpack, the officials also said.
The story was reported first by CNN, which also said the intruder got close to the White House’s south portico entrance, near the Washington Monument.
The Secret Service also said a search of the south and north grounds of the White House complex found “nothing of concern to security operations.”
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly was briefed on the incident.
The agency didn’t provide an update on the individual’s status.
Standard practice is to hand intruders over to the local police department.
