From all over Italy, sons and daughters of Yoruba descent will gather in the city of Modena on Saturday, September 19, 2015 to celebrate yet another “Yoruba Day”, a yearly cultural event to promote the rich culture of one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria.
The big event is being organised by the Egbe Omo Yoruba Emilia-Romagna and has as its objectives, aside from promoting Yoruba rich culture and ways of life recognition and honoring Yoruba sons and daughters who are resident in Italy and have done the race proud in their professional and business endeavours.
In the words of the president of Egbe Omo Yoruba Emilia-Romagna, Dr. Olumide Okunuga, he said, “We want to acknowledge and honour some of us who have done our race and our nation proud in Italy. We also want to continue to encourage our members not to forget our cultural values; our language; our elegant dressing sense and above all, the essence of being good ambassadors of our nation, an OMOLUWABI per excellence.
Through a program like this, our children are reminded that their parents come from a different culture and our host community too are made to learn and appreciate our ways of life.”
The National president of the Egbe Omo Yoruba in Italy, Dr. Dayo Sonaike is expected to lead the national executive to the event while the Nigeria Deputy Ambassador to Italy, Ambassador (Mrs) Martine Gereng-Sen is expected to be the special guest of honour.
