The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency(OYSHIA), Dr Sola Akande, has stated that it is economical to be on state’s health insurance scheme.
Speaking on a recent radio programme, Akande said that there are three basic examination that can be done by individuals to know more about their health.
He said that knowing the body’s sugar level is the first one.
“We should learn to take care of ourselves because most people are walking corpses when they don’t know the status of their sugar level and blood pressure. The fact that you can walk, jump an do your job does not indicate that you are healthy; when you are healthy is when you have the right statistics about your health,” he explained.
The Executive Secretary listed the second examination as urinalysis, saying: “Test your urine in a laboratory. There should be certain content in the urine that will determine if you are healthy or not. It may not necessarily mean that you are sick but there can be an indicator that you need to watch certain things.”
“The third examination is full blood count. This will show the count of the blood and if the parameter is okay or not. It will show whether you are incubating some certain infections or not and the total level of white blood cell in the body,” he added.
Akande explained that the tests mentioned above may cost N5000 each, without other expenses.
He, however, noted that it is economical to be on the health insurance of the Oyo State Government, adding that with N8000, enrollees will have access to all these tests and other things.
