Jordan is ready to swap an Iraqi woman held on death row in Jordan for a Jordanian pilot captured in December by the Islamic State militants.
According to Jordan’s official Petra news agency, the government’s spokesman, Mohammed al-Momani said on Wednesday that his country is “ready to release the Iraqi prisoner, Sajida al-Rishawi, if the Jordanian pilot, Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, is released unharmed”.
Sajida al-Rishawi, was sentenced to death in Jordan for her involvement in a 2005 terrorist attack by al-Qaida on hotels in Amman that killed 60 people.
The decision comes a day after ISIS released a video threatening to kill the Jordanian pilot being held hostage as well as a Japanese journalist, Kenji Goto, within 24 hours if Jordan did not effect the release of their prisoner.
