The Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure, on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, against the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the state.
The three-man tribunal, led by Justice Umar Abubakar struck out the petition for lack of jurisdiction.
According to the panel panel, “the issue raised therein in this petition are settled, issue of internal affairs and management of a political party which this Tribunal has no jurisdiction.”
Jegede of the PDP and his party had approached the tribunal, asking that he should be declared winner of the October 10, 2020 governorship election, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), returned Akeredolu of the APC for a second term as governor of Ondo state.
The tribunal judgment, which was earlier scheduled for Wednesday April 20, was rescheduled last night to Tuesday and was held via Zoom.
