The Dangote refinery in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State has commenced petrol production.
Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed during a press conference at the refinery in Lagos, on Tuesday.
Dangote, who showcased a bottle of the product, thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the sale of petrol in Naira to the refinery.
The 650,000 bpd capacity refinery began operations in January with the production of diesel and aviation fuel.
Dangote said the petrol from the plant can compete with products from other parts of the world in terms of quality.
He added that the supply from the refinery can meet the demands of Nigeria and the West African region.
This is the first time in 28 years Nigeria will produce petrol.
The production is expected to bring much needed relief to Nigerians currently experiencing excruciation petrol scarcity across the country.
