Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday.
It was gathered that, Ajaero was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official assignment when he was picked up by the DSS personnel.
The reasons behind his arrest are unknown, but it was gathered that he has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Ajaero was on his way to the conference of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the UK, which was scheduled to be commence on Monday, September 9,2024.
Confirming the development in a post via its official X account, the NLC said Ajaero’s arrest is an assault on Nigerian workers.
“The assault on Nigerian workers continues. President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, was arrested and abducted by men of the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, this morning on his way to attend an official engagement of TUC United Kingdom, and he is now detained at the office of the NSA.
“This intimidation and assault must stop!!!”
Recall that the police had on September 5, summoned Ajaero and the General Secretary, Emma Ughoaja, over alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace and malicious damage to properties.
