A hit-and-run driver, Itoro Clement, has confessed to knocking down and killing the missing Vanguard reporter, Tordue Salem.
Salem had been declared missing since October 13, but he was found dead on Thursday.
While being paraded at the premises of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Abuja, on Friday, Clement, who is a commercial driver, said he hit Salem at Mabushi area of Abuja on October 13 and sped off.
The 29-year-old commercial driver of Toyota Camry car with registration number BWR 243 BK, told journalists that he ran away from the scene on the day of the incident as he had earlier been attacked by bandits at the same spot.
Speaking, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said that the Inspector General of Police-Intelligence Response Team, headed by Olatunji Disu, finally traced the corpse of the reporter to the morgue of the Wuse General Hospital and was identified by the family.
Three identity cards comprising that of the National Assembly, Nigerian Union of Journalists and Vanguard Newspaper along with two ATM cards were said to have been found on his body
