The authorities of the University of Ibadan has confirmed that Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki attended and graduated from the institution.
A statement on Wednesday by the university’s Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, said Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, studied Classics.
The statement said the governor gained admission into the university in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
“Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university,” the statement added.
Some internal opposition leaders within the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have accused Obaseki of presenting a fake certificate, saying he did not graduate from the premier university.
But the UI statement is expected to draw the curtain on the supposed certificate scandal.
Obaseki has been in a running battle with his predecessor and the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole over the second term ticket. The latter, has vowed to ensure the governor does not get a second term in office.
