Oyo State House of Assembly has impeached the state’s deputy governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan.
The deputy governor was imepeached on Monday following the adoption of the recommendations of the report of the seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Munta Abimbola, to investigate the allegations levelled against Olaniyan.
The report of the panel was read by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin, during Monday’s plenary.
According to the report of the panel, the deputy governor at different intervals during the course of investigation failed to honour the invitation sent to him to appear before it, compelling the panel to make unnecessary adjournment.
Twenty four members of the assembly voted for the impeachment of the deputy governor.
The assembly had served the deputy governor with a notice of impeachment over alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, among others.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, said the investigative panel found the deputy governor guilty of the charges against him.
