The House of Assembly by-election for Ekiti East Constituency I in Ekiti State was marred by violence on Saturday as political thugs unleashed mayhem on voters and security agents.
The seat became vacant following the death of Juwa Adegbuyi, former representative of the constituency, in February.
Three persons including a policewoman were reportedly killed by the political thugs while five persons are receiving treatment for various injuries at a private hospital.
Biodun Olujimi, the senator representing Ekiti South in the national assembly, was said to have escaped by whiskers as the thugs went on a rampage in her polling unit in Omuo Ekiti.
Several vehicles were also vandalised at different polling units.
