The police have arrested those who kidnapped a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Yinka Adegbehingbe, on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway last month.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Leye Oyebade, disclosed this on Tuesday at a Stakeholders Security Summit organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.
The professor was kidnapped as he was travelling alongside his wife on May 5, between Asejire and Ikire town around 9 pm. He was released two days later. Police did not give details of the conditions of his release but some reports said ransom was paid.
Speakimg on Tuesday, Oyebade said the kidnappers have been arrested and that all those involved in the incident and other cases of kidnapping, will be arrested.
The Security Summit was organised in light of the growing insecurity in the South West of the country. Governors of the six South West states were present.
