Kolapo Kola-Daisi, a son-in-law to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has emerged as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for Oyo South Senatorial District.
Kola-Daisi polled 212 votes to defeat the incumbent, Sen. Kola Balogun, who scored 93 votes. Former Secretary to Oyo State Government (SSG), Sharafadeen Alli had 107 votes to place third.
A former commissioner in the state, Bimbo Adekanmbi had 98 votes to place fourth; Adegboyega Adegoke (53 votes); Rotimi Adeniyi (4 votes) and Waheed Olajide (2 votes).
Balogun, who is the younger brother of Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Lekan Balogun defeated, late Ajimobi in 2019 to win the seat.
Balogun won the seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but recently defected to the APC after he was denied a second term ticket by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The primary which could not hold on Saturday as earlier planned was rescheduled for Sunday due to the inability of the aspirants and party leadership to resolve the discrepancies that arose on delegates list.
The election was eventually held at the Le Chatteau Event Centre, Bodija, Ibadan, on Sunday amid heavy security presence.
Only accredited delegates were allowed into the election venue as journalists were also barred from gaining access into the venue.
Although, there were initial skirmishes between supporters of the aspirants, the intervention of security operatives prevented the matter from degenerating into a full blown crisis.
