Kwara State government, early Thursday morning demolished a house belonging to the late Kwara politician, Dr. Olusola Saraki.
The house, popularly called Ile Arugbo is the Saraki’s ancestral political home and it is located along Ilofa Road in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ilorin.
The state government had last month said the house was built on a land owned by the government. The government added that Saraki was not the owner of the land because he doesn’t have the Certificate of Occupancy(C of O) to it.
But former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, recently attacked the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, saying, “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq was trying to destroy my father’s legacy and he has crossed the line.”
However, it was gathered that the demolition of the building started around 4:00 a.m, after security operatives dispersed protesters including aged women within the complex on Wednesday.
According to reports, security operatives stormed the vicinity around 2:00 a.m, attempted to demolish the building but it was met with a protest as people around the area gathered to chase them away.
Speaking on the development, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Jeffrey Ajayi, said he was not aware of the demolition.
“I know nothing about the demolition, if at all there is any. In fact, no notice was given to my office,” he said.
