The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has denied allegations that governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, spent N5billion to secure re-election.
The party, reacting to the allegation made by former governor of the state and governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the April elections, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, said in a statement released in Ibadan today that the allegation “was not only far from the truth, but a product of hallucination of a confused politician”.
The full statement reads:
The attention of the Re-Elect Governor Ajimobi Movement has been drawn to the preposterous allegation by former governor of Oyo State and the defeated candidate of the Accord Party in the 2015 general elections, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, in some national dailies during the last Eid El-Fitr festivities that Governor Abiola Ajimobi spent N5 billion on his re-election bid.
For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Ajimobi’s re-election bid budge is a far cry from the fertile imagination of Senator Ladoja, hence his claim was not only far from the truth, but a product of hallucination of a confused politician.
While Senator Ladoja is best ignored, knowing as we do that he is still licking the wounds from his recent defeat at the polls; our silence with his tirade against our candidate and winner of the last governorship election might be misconstrued as admission of guilt, while unsuspecting members of the public might be misled to forming an erroneous impression; the truth is that all the rules on election spending were strictly adhered to by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State during the last elections in which the good people of Oyo State gave Governor Ajimobi the mandate to continue his good works in office. Any insinuation to the contrary is just a figment of the imagination of the purveyor of the deceitful allegation.
Having put the historic election which is unprecedented in the political annals of Oyo State behind, the winner, His Excellency Senator Ajimobi is now working hard continuing his administration’s delivery of the benefit of continuity and good governance to the electorate. No doubt, this reckless allegation by Senator Ladoja, and his cohorts, will not distract the people’s governor from fulfilling his pact with the entire citizenry of Oyo state. Ladoja and his acolytes are strongly advised to behave as statesmen who need to concede defeat and be conscious of the reality on the ground that another election is in the next four years. The era of politicking is over. Senator Ajimobi has put all that transpired before and during the last general elections behind him as he now faces the business of governance squarely.
The good people of Oyo State are now wiser, knowing full well that Senator Ladoja as Accord Party chieftain is desperate not to forfeit his goodwill among his gullible and hyponotized disciples. The basis of his desperation is not unconnected with the fact that he needs to hoodwink and politically cajole his followers that are depleting on daily basis.
