The lady who jumped into the Lagos lagoon on Thursday evening has been identified as Adetutu Adedokun, a staff of the Department of State Services (DSS).
A source disclosed this to Channels Television on Friday, adding that Adedokun was an unarmed combat instructor who recently got engaged.
Adedokun had jumped into the lagoon following a heated argument with her boyfriend, who was said to have recently proposed to her and they were about getting married.
According to the Uber driver, Adedokun had an argument with her fiance and in the heat of the altercation, she ordered him to stop and disembarked from the cab.
She then headed towards the railings of the bridge and jumped into the lagoon.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) had confirmed the incident in an update by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
“Upon arrival of the LRT at the incident scene, investigation revealed that a lady in her late thirties (30s) plunged into the Lagos lagoon
“Further investigation revealed that the lady alighted from a Uber taxi car on the bridge and plunged into the lagoon.
“The driver of the taxi claimed she was having a heated conversation with her fiance before alighting from the car.
“The LRT, men of Lagos State Fire and rescue Service, LASWA and officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) are currently on ground working better together to search for the victim,” Oke-Osanyintolu had said.
Also, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had said after intense search and efforts, the rescue teams were unable to find the victim.
He said: “The rescue teams called off their search by 7pm because it was already dark. They will continue the search tomorrow (Friday); you know it is water, the wave would have taken the body somewhere else. But we will search everywhere.”
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the report, adding that her body has not been found as of this afternoon.
