Lagos State has been named the third worst city for drivers in the world. According to the study conducted by German firm, kfzteile24, the Nigerian commercial capital had 60 per cent congestion and 10.70mph average speed.
Lagos was ranked third next to Karachi, Pakistan: 59 per cent congestion, 11.20mph average speed and Kolkata, with India topping the list.
According to the list, Dusseldorf, Germany came first as the best city for drivers, with 20 per cent congestion, and 21.20mph average speed.
“Cars are an important accessory of modern life, and the means by which many use to get from A to B. Yet poor urban planning or a lack of civil education can make driving the most stressful experience of somebody’s day”, said Thomas Kloubert, CMO of kfzteile24.
“We hope that this study will act as a catalyst for those cities in the negative end of the ranking to invest in safer, cleaner and more efficient roads, and consider how methods adopted by higher scoring cities can be utilised in their own locations”.
The publication said the list was arrived at after considering the following:
- An analysis of local congestion levels
- An average cost of parking and fuel
- Public transport options
- Average roadway speeds
- Air pollution levels
- Accidents and fatalities
- Road quality
- Frequency and perception of road rage
100 international cities were analysed and Lagos was the only African city on the list.
