Traders who lost goods to a fire that razed Oranyan Market, Ibadan on December 16, 2015, had their hopes rekindled this week. This happened after the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina led officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to access the damage.
The midnight fire, it would be recalled, consumed a larg part of the market, destroying goods worth several millions of naira. The market is
is one of the biggest in Ibadan North East local government.
While conducting NEMA officials round the market, together with the affected traders, the young lawmaker recalled he wrote NEMA on the disaster after inspecting the market.
He promised to ensure that relief materials were supplied in earnest.
He said:
I will ensure we keep NEMA on their toes so that they can speedily fulfill their promise.“We have promised before the election to ensure qualitative and responsive representation, it is our desire to partner with all major stakeholders to attract federal presence into our communities whenever the need arises.
The agency’s assistant zonal coordinator (South West), Mr. Adebiyi Babatunde, who led the inspection team, hailed the lawmaker for showing great concern for his constituents. He sympathized with the victims and assured them of government assistance which will be communicated and transferred to them in due course after all necessary documentation have been completed.
He also enjoined the traders to be safety conscious and partner with insurance companies to better deal with such disasters in the future.
