A group of Lawyers under the aegis of “Lawyers for Change”, on Friday held a rally in Oyo town, to show support for the candidature of Presidential Candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) General Mohammadu Buhari and his running mate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Speaking at the rally, the coordinator of the group, Barrister Adesina Ogunlana said Nigeria Bar Association is for all lawyers but “Lawyers for Change” is political though without any political party affiliation. He said they give allegiance to any political figure that is considered credible.
Ogunlana noted that as Nigerians go to the polls on March 28, they should consider a change of government saying things have become so bad that naira is very weak, electricity had become permanently unstable and less than 20% of Nigerians have access to good water.
He added that good and affordable education was out of reach of the majority of Nigerians just as good health and shelter were lacking. He added that insecurity had resulted into terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, fraud and rituals which have made nobody safe any longer in Nigeria.
Also speaking at the rally, Secretary of NBA, Oyo State branch Barrister Olajide Olanipekun said that the movement of “Lawyers for Change” is not about NBA or politicking but a belief in the candidature of Buhari/Osinbajo especially professor Yemi Osinbajo who happens to be a professor of law and who was the Anthony General of Lagos State for eight years.
His words: “If we don’t have professionals like these to be in the forefront to lead the battle, we will definitely be led by the knowledge of the mediocre. Nigeria is so buoyant that we can afford anything and that is the reason we need people like the duo of Buhari and Osinbajo to put things right because they have the integrity to manage well our resources”
