The All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State Chapter, has advised Governor Seyi Makinde and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to leave politicking for the future and secure lives and property of residents in the state.

The party in a statement signed by its Caretaker Publicity Secretary, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde, on Tuesday, said the present administration should not be ashamed to admit its failure.

“Imagine the PDP in Oyo State claiming that the achievements of late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi led government in the area of security was made possible because PDP government at the center then was able to provide adequate security for Nigerians, hence that rub off on Oyo State.

“However, it is because of unashamed brazen liars like this that records are kept.

“Because of space constraints, we will just like to remind ourselves few of the things that happened between 2011 and 2013, to judge the government of the PDP at the centre once again.

“August 2011- Attack on United Nations Complex, Abuja, the seat of PDP Federal Government then.

“April 2012 – Bombing of media houses in Abuja and Kaduna.

“October 2012- 80 towns and villages were razed down by Boko Haram, with hundreds of casualties in Borno State.

“November 2012- Killing of 40 Students in Mubi, Adamawa State.

“December 2012 – Bombing of Muhammad Kurs Barrack

“January 12013- Bombing of Airforce Base, Monguno Barracks, Maiduguri and numerous Police Station in Borno State.

“Apart from the above, 14 Local Government Areas were completely taken over by the Boko Haram insurgents. These are few of the things happening in the country then, which Oyo State PDP claimed to have rubbed off on the government led by Sen. Abiola Ajimobi,” APC said.

According to APC, while the PDP government at the center was looking for solution to the security challenges confronting the country Ajimobi came up with “operation Burst,” which it said secured the people of Oyo State for eight solid years of his administration.

“The good people of Oyo State attested to the achievements of Ajimobi’s government with accolades right, left and center at the expiration of his tenure,” it added.

The party further stated that the Ajimobi led government fashioned out its own ingenious ways of banishing crime and criminality from the state.

“What is painful to us is the failure of Gov. Seyi Makinde to build on the template of success inherited from the Ajimobi led government.

“Imagine an innocent woman, Alhaja Serifat Adisa, the CEO of Subawah filling station, Igboora Road, Idere, that was kidnapped and murdered on Saturday January 2, 2021 in front of her filling station, among other high and low profile violence that has now become synonymous with Oyo State since the government of Engr Seyi Makinde took over.

“Today it is Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) that is threatening to shutdown its retail outlets in Oyo because one of them was affected, who is next?” the statement said.

APC urged Makinde to secure the lives and property of residents and stop blaming the federal government for the worsening security situation in the state.
