The national leadership of Accord has dissolved its executive in Oyo State, for endorsing Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as its preferred governorship candidate in Saturday’s election.
A letter signed by the National Chairman of Accord, Muhammad Nalado, and addressed to the National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said that Accord state executive in Oyo State has been dissolved for anti-party activities.
He said the dissolution of the Oyo State executive, which takes immediate effect was part of the resolutions reached during an emergency National Executive Council meeting held at its National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Wednesday.
“We wish to bring to the knowledge of the Commission that the State Executive of our great party ‘ACCORD’ Oyo State Chapter has been dissolved with immediate effect due to Anti-Party Activities and Gross misconduct by the State Exco. This decision was taken during an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of our great party held on the 8th March, 2023 at the National Secretariat, Abuja.
“However, the following members of the party have been appointed as the Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending when the State Congress Elections would be held;
“Alh. Isiaka Salami (Caretaker Chairman); Mr. Bashiru Ayobami (Secretary); Hon Fatai Salawu (member); Mrs Bimpe Martins (member) and Hon Ayodele Oyajide (member).
“We urge the Commission to kindly give this Caretaker Committee necessary attention/cooperation they may require.
“Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem,” Nalado said.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Oyo State Commissioner of Police; Director, Department of State Services (DSS), Oyo State; and Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State were copied in the letter.
