A former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has said the incumbent governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde, lacks the knowledge of government business, noting that it is one of the reasons the current administration is misplacing its priorities.
Speaking on Fresh 105.9FM programme, ‘Political Circuit,’ on Saturday, Adelabu said when there is no knowledge of government business, there will only be “rabble rousing.”
He said the Makinde-led administration has failed on finance, funding and fiscal responsibility.
“What we have seen in the last three years is misplaced priorities. The little funding that we have should have gone to the basics that everybody will have a feel of government’s spending.
“If a total of betwen N16 to 20 billion, with the meagre finance we have in Oyo State, is being spent on building garage and motor parks, I believe the priority is misplaced.
“Makinde lacks knowledge of government business. When you lack that, you’ll only be rabble rousing. They lack competence and failed to build capacity.
“This governor doesn’t have the interest of this state in mind, I don’t know what we have done to him that all he wants do is to take this state down and down but we will not agree,” Adelabu said.
Adelabu, who is a financial expert, also said the alternative project funding introduced by the Makinde administration is fraudulent.
“The alternative project funding is fraudulent because the contractor will factor in a lot of things and by the time you are paying back, you’re paying double.
“It (alternative project funding) is just a deferment of liability, it is not a grant. And if you are able to push this thing beyond your own regime, you are creating problem for the incoming government because there is value, the contractor has worked for you, you could see they have worked but you are owing them,” he said
