The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has stated that civil servants in Oyo state and Nigeria deserve more than the N30,000 minimum wage currently being agitated for.
Makinde said this during a courtesy visit to the office of Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), Oyo State chapter on Wednesday where he met with the leaders of various labour unions in the state.
While sympathizing with the workers over their unpaid salaries and allowances, Makinde expressed his solidarity with the three days warning strike embarked upon by the civil servants and promised to engage the state work force productively if voted into office.
He emphasised that in doing this, he will reposition the affairs of the state by putting people to work and also expand the economic base of generating revenue instead of relying solely on federal allocation .
According to him, Oyo state cannot continue to rely on funds generated from crude oil for massive development across board, stating that “Agriculture will be my number one cardinal focus, as the state is blessed with massive resources , hence deploying the resources generated to things that will bring benefits to the state .”
Makinde added that his government plans to reduce poverty among the residents of the state by engaging the unemployed people especially the youth by unlocking hidden potentials spread across the state.
He presented his blueprint and plans for the state work force to the leaders of various unions present.
