The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Engr Oluseyi Makinde, has promised to donate his salaries to teachers pensions if elected.
He made the promise while addressing teachers from five local governments during his campaign in Saki, Saki West Local Government area of the state Monday evening.
He held a town hall meeting with teachers from Saki East, Saki West, Atisbo, Oorelope and Irepo local governments of Oke-Ogun.
The governorship candidate said he knew what the teachers were passing through, alleging that they were not being paid as at when due, adding that his donation would also mitigate the effect of having to wait for a long time for their gratuity and pension.
He said being a child of retired primary school teacher, he must identify with the teachers at all times.
While expressing their happiness with Makinde’s intention and endorsing his candidacy, some of them said their major worry was the delay in receiving their gratuity and irregular pension.
They lamented that teachers always approach retirement with apprehension because of the bleak future staring at them due to the concern highlighted. Makinde pledged to address their concerns.
The governorship candidate later went to hold a meeting with the Okere-in-Council, Baale Gaji, Baale Iya, members of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Oke ogun and the Saki branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN).
