A father of four, Francis Onyeji, 51 was on Monday remanded in prison on the orders of a Delta State Magistrates court in Uvwie presided over by Blessing Ideh.
Onyeji, a staff of an indigenous oil services company in Warri, was accused of defiling a 13-year-old housemaid at Effurun-Warri area of the State.
It was gathered that the suspect’s wife, having discovered what transpired between her husband and the housemaid, inflicted bodily injuries on the 13-year-old.
Onyeji was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on unlawful carnal knowledge and defilement of the teenager.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Enikido Akele, told the court that the accused absconded when the matter was reported by the victim at the Ekpan Police station on July 1, adding that he was apprehended on July 28.
The prosecutor added that the victim was a JSS 2 student of Ekpan Basic Secondary School in Uvwie Local Government Area of the State.
Akele said the victim while been interrogated over the injuries on her body, insisted that the accused committed the crime.
“The accused resides in Oghoyoma Onomokpome Street behind Chinkelly Schools and has been on the run when he heard that the police were on his trail,” Akele told the court.
According to the prosecutor, the offence was punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State.
When the charge was read, he pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate consequently ordered that he be remanded in Okere prison in Warri till August 25.
The13-year-old had earlier told newsmen before the arraignment that Onyeji started forcing her into sleeping with him since 2013.
In her ruling, Ideh said, “The hearing of this case is being adjourned till August 25 and the police officer is commanded to convey the defendant to the prison and deliver him over to the superintendent thereof, together with the warrant.”
