Nemesis caught up with a 43-year-old man who tried to rape a 10-year-old girl at Okebadan, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
It was gathered that the man, popularly referred to as “Kango”, last Sunday, took advantage of his wife’s absence to commit the crime.
His wife, who runs a medicine store attached to their house, had left for church that morning when the girl came to buy medicine. Kango reportedly lured the little girl inside and tried to defile her.
A neighbour who preferred anonymity told Newspeakonline that Kango released the girl after he found it difficult to penetrate her but the girl got home and reported the case to her parents.
Learning that the girl’s parents and some other neighbours were coming for him, Kango took to his heels, and went up a pole and unto the roof of the building. And while running and jumping from one roof to another, he fell and broke his legs.
The mob after him then caught up with him and attempted to lynch him before cops from the Agugu Police station intervened and took him to hospital.
A police source said the suspect would be charged as soon as he recovered from his injuries.
Some residents however pleaded for forgiveness for the suspect since he had already paid dearly for his evil intention.
