A 35-year-old man suspected to be a human parts dealer has been arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly being in possession of a human eyeball.
Shaibu Ibrahim, who is from Toto Local Government of Nassarawa state was apprehended by Police operatives attached to the Gawu Babangida Division in Gurara Local Government Area.
It was reported that he was arrested on Thursday while Police were on a routine patrol.
The police said the eyeball was removed from a victim of communal clash between Igbira and Bassa people in Nasarawa State.
According to reports, the suspect had been trafficking in human parts for about five years before he ran out of luck yesterday.
Northern City News gathered that he was given the part by an accomplice identified as Ojo, (now at large) to sell in Niger State for N250,000.
The suspect confirmed to journalists that he was an intermediary between Ojo and the buyers.
Ibrahim said:“My job is to deliver human parts given to me by Ojo to his clients across the northern states. We make quick money in this business but I cannot tell what the buyers are using the parts for.
“A lot of people are interested in buying human parts but I don’t know what they use them for. My duty is to deliver as and when due to our clients and collect the money.
“I don’t even ask clients what they are using the human eyeballs for, but I guess it must be something serious.”
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the arrest said police operatives arrested the suspect after receiving credible information from a member of the public.
He said the suspect would be arraigned in court after the completion of investigation.
