A 23-year-old man identified as Yusuf Mohammed was on Thursday arraigned by police before a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly purchasing a stolen generator for N1,500.
According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Shedrack Dauda, the accused, who resides at Kabusa village, Apo, Abuja, is standing trial on a charge of dishonestly receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor told the court that one Mrs Gloria Ojoma of Lokogoma District, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on August 12.
According to him, the complainant was robbed by three men who broke into her shop and stole her property, including the said generator, on August 4.
He said that the alleged thieves confessed that they sold the generator to the accused who buys stolen property from them.
He further said that the accused bought the said generator for N1,500 and confessed to have sold the generator to another person, who is now at large.
He said that the offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till October 19 for hearing.
