A 38-year-old man, Idowu Ajewole, allegedly killed his neighbour, Monday Bassey, 28, after he reportedly found some of his missing chicken’s feathers in Bassey’s belongings when packing out of the flat they shared at Adebowole Street, Oke-Aro in Akure.
Ajewole, who informed the police about the theft, allegedly killed Bassey when he pushed him into the police van. The incident occurred December 12, 2015.
Ajewole has been remanded in prison custody by a Magistrate’s Court in Akure.
Police prosecutor Pelumi Adejuwon said that the suspect made the deceased hit his head on the floor as he pushed him inside the police vehicle. Adejuwon said that Bassey died as a result of an injury he sustained when he fell.
He told the court that Ajewole’s action was responsible for the victim’s death.
The prosecutor noted that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code.
Adejuwon asked the court for adjournment of the case to enable him send the duplicate of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). He also urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody, pending the out come of the DPP advice.
Ajewole’s counsel A.K .Adewusi said he was not opposing the adjournment due to the nature of the charge.
The magistrate, Sunday Adedapo, ordered that the accused be remanded in Olokuta Prison, pending the outcome of the legal advice.
The case was adjourned till January 28, 2016.
