The study of Medicine in Nigerian university will now last for 11 years, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has declared.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, made this known in a lecture delivered at the first matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo, Ondo State.
Okojie, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, said the development had become imperative in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the profession.
He added that the 2015 document for the training of medical students projects that the students will spend the first four years studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years.
