Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West Senatorial District, on Sunday, attacked leaders of the party over the zoning of the senatorial ticket.
The leaders of the party in Osun West, comprising of 10 local government areas, had called a stakeholders to discuss the zoning of the party’s senatorial ticket.
The meeting had just commenced at the federal constituency office in Agbowo, Iwo, when crisis erupted over the leaders decision to zone the ticket to Iwo.The meeting was attended by the incumbent senator, Sen. Adelere Oriolowo, as well as other aspirants contesting for the ticket.
In his opening remarks, the party’s senatorial chairman, Hon. Akintola Omolaoye, told the gathering that the leaders have agreed to zone the senatorial ticket to Iwo.
“To ensure that all political interests are properly factored in, the apex body of the party in her meeting held on the 23rd of April, 2022, unanimously resolved as follows; that the Senate seat of this district for the 2023 election is herein zoned to Iwo Federal Constituency,” Omolaoye said.
Following the announcement, supporters of aspirants from the other zones started shouting, “Ikire, Ikire”, “Ejigbo, Ejigbo”, during which the meeting became rowdy and members started charging towards the high table.
Sensing danger, the leaders quickly ended the meeting and ran out of the venue for fear of being attacked.
Some of the party chieftains at the meeting include Hon. Yinusa Amobi, Hon. Ayo Omidiran, Hon. Patricia Etteh, Professor Mojeed Alabi, Professor Ladipo, among others.
