FIFA on Thursday released its nominations for its annual awards for The FIFA Best Awards for players and coaches.
Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nigeria’s women’s coach Florence Omagbemi are the only Africans in contention for the awards.
Aubameyang, 27, last season top scorer in the Bundesliga with 31 goals was shortlisted for The Best Fifa Men’s Player award while Omagbemi, who led Nigeria’s Super Falcons to an 8th continental title in Cameroon last year, is one of the 10 names on the list for The Best Fifa Women’s Coach.
The winners from each category will be revealed at a ceremony in London on October 23.
Two panels of experts from across the six confederations chose the shortlisted candidates for the top performers of the 2016-17 season.
