The Nigerian Military, supported by the West African Allied Forces made up of Chad, Niger and Cameroon on Thursday raided the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, killing many of the insurgents.
The expansive Sambisa forest is believed to host a number of training camps and facilities of the insurgents.
According to reports said air force jets first bombarded the area before ground forces moved in. The insurgents have now been pushed out of Gamboru which lies on the Nigerian border with Cameroon and the military are advancing into other areas under the insurgents control.
Sources disclosed that the operations actually began on Monday.
