Ministerial nominee and spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lai Mohammed mounted the podium to face senate screening as a ministerial nominee and his first few words have ruffled feathers.
The senate was first thrown into a rowdy session when an APC senator said the nominee should take a bow and go.
Then he started:
I know I must have ruffled feathers when I was doing my work as opposition spokesman. It was part of the job I had to do for my party. I’ve spent a long time in opposition. Four years is too long to learn the ropes of opposition. You might need to stay longer
As a government, we won’t be as harsh as you were to us when we were in opposition
In supporting the motion that Lai Mohammed takes a bow and go, minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said:
I know him very well. Why I may support the motion, I know he may have one or two propaganda to drop here before he leaves
Talking about himself, Lai Mohammed said:
‘It is service to be in opposition but its higher service to serve in Government’
‘My mission/vision if confirmed minister is; I’ll be passionate, committed and patriotic as I was when I was in government’
