Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunse Falabi narrowly escaped death on Monday when hoodlums attacked his palace.
It was gathered that all the palace guards took to their heels when the irate mob in their hundreds stormed the palace.
The reason for the invasion of the palace is still unknown but sources said it may not be unconnected with the lingering Obaship tussle in the town.
An eyewitness revealed that on arrival at the palace, the hoodlums removed the monarch’s crown and ordered him to move out of the palace before security operatives intervened.
It was learnt that the monarch was rescued by armed soldiers and taken to an unknown destination.
Before rescuing the monarch, the soldiers were said to have clashed with the hoodlums, who threw stones at them and blocked the road to the palace.
Unconfirmed report on the incident claimed that two people lost their lives in the mayhem.
Speaking on the incident, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed the attack but denied that two people lost their lives.
She, however, disclosed that normalcy has returned to the town.
