The Tijjani Usman-led faction of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been expelled by Joint Campus Committee chairmen of the association over allegation of fraud and impersonation.
A statement issued by the chairman and secretary, National Joint Campus Committee, Yakubu Yerima Abdullahi and Magnus Okosisi, said all the members of the Tijjani Usman-led faction had to be expelled to save NANS from the clutches of “fraudsters” and “imposters” who had been parading themselves as students’ leaders.
“NANS hereby expels Tijjani Usman and his executive members and warns them to stop parading themselves as NANS Excos so as to avoid the wrath of Nigerian students whom they terribly betrayed on several occasions. This has become necessary in view of the pains inflicted on the union as a result of the misinformation on Asaba election and blatant: disregard of the position of Nigerian students on national issues.
“NANS calls on agencies, ministries, state governments and foreign missions to stop dealing with Tijjani Usman and his Excos. They have been an embarrassment to NANS.
“We thank Nigerians for their support and understanding on issues that concern students and we will replicate such gesture by presenting credible and acceptable leadership that will champion the overall interest of NANS,” the statement said.
