The Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande, has picked the N50 million governorship expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Oke Ogun-born politician, who is the first aspirant outside Ibadan to obtain the forms, brings the number of aspirants vying for the Oyo APC governorship ticket to six.
Akande, a professor of comparative politics and lawyer, is a seasoned journalist who worked as Editor-in-Chief of Omega Weekly (1997); Acting Editor of Sunday Tribune (1996); and Regional Editor (South West) of Punch Newspapers (1993).
He was a former lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan (1997). Akande presently teaches at Igbinedion University, Okada, where he is also the Director, Centre for Presidential Studies.
He served as Deputy Chief Press Secretary and Special Assistant (Research and Communication Strategies) to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2001 and 2003, and also served as Chief of Staff to former Governor Abiola Ajimobi from 2011 to 2013.
In 2018, Akande was appointed as Chairman of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and appointed NCC Chairman in 2020.
