The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), Murtala Muhammed International Airport(MMIA) Command, on Friday said it arrested 64 drug traffickers between January and August 2019.
The NDLEA Commander for MMIA, Garba Ahmadu disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of the command in Lagos.He stated that the arrested suspects consists of 55 males and nine females.
He said that the total drug seizure within the period stood at 260.20kg; comprising of 20.36kg cocaine; 14.04kg heroin, 112.24kg cannabis sativa, 84.92kg metamphetamine and 24.14kg of ephedrine.
Ahmadu further stated that on June 10, the command arrested one Kouassi JeanPaul also known as Eze Ikechukwu, who he claimed swallowed 80 wraps of methamphetamine.
According to him, “the 55-year-old suspect was arrested on his way to Jakarta, Indonesia and I can confirm to you that the suspect would be arraigned in court today.”
He explained that the suspect found it difficult to excrete the wraps that he swallowed after he was caught.
“He swallowed 80 wraps of Methamphetamine. He freely excreted 79 wraps with one wrap trapped in his system. The suspect was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital from the Nigeria Air Force clinic,” he said.
Ahmadu said after the surgery at LASUTH on June 27, JeanPaul excreted the remaining one wrap trapped in his system.
He warned Nigerians against engaging in drug trafficking, adding that no fewer than four people recently lost their lives to the crime.
