The Registrar, National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof Charles Uwakwe, has been sacked. He was sacked alongside two deputy directors.
No official reason has been given for his sack but reports suggest it may not be unconnected to an alleged award of N25 billion contract without the approval of either the Federal Ministry of Education or even the governing board of the Council.
Another source alleged that the sacked Registrar was said to have engaged in recruitment of staff without the knowledge of appropriate authorities .
Uwakwe, formerly of the University of Ibadan , was appointed Registrar of the examination body less than two years ago when the appointment of his predecessor , Prof Abdulrasheed Garba , was similarly terminated .
Alhaji Abubakar Gana, the most senior director in the council, has been directed to take over as Registrar in acting capacity.
