The Oyo State Police Command on Thursday paraded four men arrested in Ibadan for illegal arms dealing. About 10,000 live catridges were recovered from the suspects.
Speaking at the state headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Taiwo Olukolu, explained that on July 23, 2019, the Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS) informed the command about the activities of hoodlums specializing in the supply of arms and ammunition to different armed robbery gangs in the state.
The four suspects were identified as Adekunle Abimbola, Mukaila Ariyo, Ade Adebayo, and Abel Ọjọ́. Recovered from them were 10,000 catridges, an unregistered Toyota Sienna LE Mini Bus and a Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos GGE 979 FT.
Leader of the gang, 54-year-old Ojo, confessed to journalists that he started the criminal trade last year. He said he was into illegal importation of bullets and selling to hunters.
Other suspected paraded were arrested for various crimes includimg fraud, armed robbery, burglary, and stealing.
Stressing the need to be security-conscious, CP Shina Olukolu advised residents to be wary of unregistered commercial mototcycle riders with passengers very early in the mornings and late in the night. He warned that people should be particularly careful as the Eid el Kabir (Ileya) celebration approaches since festive periods were prone to crime.
He also urged the public to always cooperate with the police.
