Nigeria’s under 20 women’s national team, Super Falconets, in the early hours Friday recorded a 1-0 victory over France in their opening game at the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The 85th minute goal from Flourish Sabastine secured the win for the Falconets at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, San José, Costa Rica.
Coach Chris Danjuma’s side began the game on a fine note and caused some panic for the Europeans amid a heay downpour which caused poor visibility for the players and match officials.
Centre referee, Francia Gonzales was forced to stop play in the 20th minute due to the weather condition. The game was, however, restarted after an hour.
Nigeria are in Group C with France, Canada and South Korea.
Super Falconets will play their next game against South Korea on Sunday.
