A Nigerian diplomat attending the African Union Summit in Johannesburg was on Wednesday robbed by men posing as Nigerian police officers.
Gauteng police said the robbery took place as the Nigerian delegate was travelling to his Sandton hotel from OR Tambo International Airport.
Reports said the fake policemen stopped the delegate on Marlboro Drive, produced Nigerian police identification and then took $500 and R700 from him.
The robbery is the second such incident involving international delegates attending events in South Africa. Last month a group of delegates attending the Pan African Parliament were robbed at gunpoint just outside their Midrand hotel.
