Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole said on Monday that Nigerians have nothing to fear as regards the Zika virus.
According to him, Nigerians have developed resistance to the virus as it had been in the country since 1954.
Prof. Adewole spoke while addressing the Senate Committee on Health during its budget defence session on Monday.
He had two weeks ago advised pregnant Nigerians not to travel to Zika virus endemic countries.
The WHO has already declared Zika virus an international emergency.
Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week.
