Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja has found, Olisa Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his firm, Destra Investment Limited guilty of laundering over N400 million.
Ruling on the first count the judge ruled that a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, unlawfully transferred the sum of N400 million to the defendants in November 2014.
Shortly after he was convicted, the trial judged suspended reading the judgement to allow the former PDP spokesman use the gents. Upon his return to the courtroom, Justice Abang proceeded with his judgement on the second count of the charges which bordered on the criminal conversion of N400 million.
According to him, the evidence before him shows that the money was used to fund activities of the PDP. The judge added that Metuh also used the money to acquire a property at Banana Island in Lagos. He explained that this was contrary to the e-payment mandate which stated that the money was meant for security services, whereas Destra Investment was not a registered security outfit.
However, Metuh’s conviction has generated several reactions on twitter.

A pro-democracy activist, Mr. Moshood Erubami said: “It’s now becoming certain that the Buhari/APC war against Corruption is not a lonely. The judiciary appears to be seeing senses in joining hands. Those who participated in the sharing of money meant for security equipments and diverted it into their private pockets for selfish ends should be getting ready to be put where they should rightly be in the Prisons. The masterminds of the sharing must not be allowed to escape too. We would also call for the prosecution of their Master who watched indifferently as the huge National resources are shared by the fraudulent Politicians in the PDP. He should be told the difference between corruption and stealing.
