The All Progresssives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has reiterated that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde is not joining its fold.
A statement signed on Tuesday by Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde, the Publicity Secretary of the party’s Caretaker Committee in the state, said there is no space for the governor in the party.
According to the statement, the party does not believe in distracting Makinde from the task of governing of Oyo State, but it however said courtesy demands that “once someone sends a post, he deserves to have a response.”
“To start with, Engr Seyi Makinde is a ‘political journeyman.’ In 2015,he stood for election under the banner of SDP, that should inform the people that Engr Seyi Makinde is a businessman and not a politician with any identifiable ideological stand.
“For Engr Seyi Makinde to be able to use the banner of PDP in 2019, the likes Hon Mulikat Adeola, Alh. Nureni Akanbi, Alh. Abass Olopoeyan and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose were just a few of the people who ensured Makinde realised his dream of becoming the governor of Oyo State.
“But what happened after that?Engr Seyi Makinde has shown them his character.
“Apart from the aforementioned group of people, there are also those that are called coalition partners- ADC, ZLP, SDP and others who collaborated to collapse their own party structures for the success of Engr Seyi Makinde at the 2019 gubernatorial election
“They have equally deserted the governor but even before they chose to desert the governor, Makinde had rubbished them severally in the media by rhetorically asking for the number of seats their parties won in the state and federal assembly elections.
“It is on record that in 2011, after the legacy party(ACN) won the gubernatorial election, ACN entered into a coalition with the Accord party in order to form the parliament; all the agreements reached between the then ACN and Accord party were followed to the letter by Gov Abiola Ajimobi to the glory of God.
“In view of the foregoing, the whole world could see that the people in APC are populated by men and women of integrity.
“So would it be too much if we say that there is no room for a person of Engr Seyi Makinde in APC because he has ‘no iota of integrity’ to stand on,” the statement said.
The APC also debunked a statement credited to the governor that it failed to tarred beyond 40km of roads while in power.
It noted that Makinde should be made to answer “which government built the roads his administration is making efforts to put street lights on?”
It continued: “Gov Seyi Makinde should be asked how the word ‘koseleri,’ which was the aftermath of the re-election of Sen Abiola Ajimobi came about? It came about because, until 2015,no incumbent governor has been re-elected in Oyo State and Sen Abiola Ajimobi broke that jinx because of the first class infrastructural facilities, security of lives and property delivered to the good people of Oyo State between 2011-2015, unlike what we have before 2011 and even now.
“People of substance still applaud the infrastructures till today and perhaps the class acts of those infrastructures have swooned Engr Seyi Makinde into inaction, hence unable to do anything, two years into his tenure in office.”
Oyo APC added that any lies told repeatedly and unchallenged might “dorn the toga of truth,” stressing that the “malicious claim of APC government delivering less than 40km of roads in eight years has to be challenged and laid to rest.”
“The road networks in Iseyin and Ogbomoso townships alone is more than 40km, not to talk of massive roads in Ibadanland and Oyo town.
“The achievements of Sen Abiola Ajimobi in government are just too numerous to mention, from security, agriculture, education, health, environmental cleanliness, helath and infrastructures, which perhaps resulted in people granting him the status of the father of modern Oyo State.
“If those names- ‘koseleri and father of modern Oyo State’ are the headache of Gov Seyi Makinde, let him utilise what is left of the sacred mandate of governance bestowed upon him to make his mark on the sand of time, rather than the pedestrian politicking that has been synonymous with his government.
“Let Gov Seyi Makinde thank his star and savour the luck of governing Oyo State because in truth, we have no space for him in APC,” the statement concluded.
