NYSC members have been banned from organising social events, picnics or night parties without the consent of appropriate authorities.
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, made the announcement on Tuesday.
The ban follows the death of nine corps members who drowned in a river in Taraba during a picnic.
While addressing corps member at Ikare Akoko, in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo state, Kazaure said every social gathering should be put on hold.
His words: “Serving the fatherland was all about devotion, and you must learn the necessary skills while in camp.
“I am sure you are aware we lost nine corps members in Taraba, they were 2018 batch A corps, members.
“Whenever you are going to embark on any social outings, you must seek clearance from NYSC officials, either the Local Government Inspectors or the state Coordinator, that’s the new directive”
