Members of the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) branch have sustained the paralysis of all academic and non academic activities on campus for the second day in spite of the dissolution of its Executive by the national Executive Committee on Tuesday.
NASU members are protesting the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Ayobami Salami who is expected to start his tenure on Friday.
The five-year tenure of the outgoing VC, Professor Bamitale Omole, ends today Thursday.
The National Exco of the union had dissolved the OAU branch in a June 21 letter citing continued breaching of NASU constitution in its opposition to the appointment of a new VC in the university.
It said the OAU branch carried out protests and industrial actions without the approval of the national Exco.
All the gates leading to the institution are currently locked down and occupied by members of NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
