The Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, has announced the re-opening of the university 36 days after it was shut following the crises that rocked the institution.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, the school is to resume on August 3, 2016 for the continuation of screening exercise for the new students while old students will come into residence on Sunday, August 7, 2016.
The decision to reopen the school was taking at a special Senate meeting held to consider a proposed amendment to this session’s academic calendar.
Recall that Professor Anthony Elujoba has been appointed the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution following the exit of Prof. ‘Tale Omole.
The institution’s NASU ansd SSANU had kicked against the initial appointment of Prof. Ayobami Salami, and accused Omole of mismanagement.
President Muhammadu Buhari had announced the suspension of the school’s governing council as the crisis lingered.
