Barack Obama has become the first sitting US president to visit Hiroshima, 71 years after the Japanese city became the target of the world’s first atomic bombing.
With the skeleton of Hiroshima’s A-Bomb Dome as a backdrop, Mr Obama laid a wreath in memory of at least 80,000 people who died when the US became the first and only country to launch a nuclear attack, on August 6 1945.
At his memorial speech, he paid tribute to the dead and demanded world free from nuclear weapons.
He called on people to ‘force themselves to imagine the moment the bomb fell’
